Chasing the Light: The New Nordic Interior

Designers from Oslo to Kyoto are building rooms around a single, fugitive ingredient.

In the far north, light is rationed, and so it is revered. The rooms that define this aesthetic are designed first for the sun's brief passage: deep windowsills, pale floors that bounce it, a palette that does nothing to compete.

The idea has gone global. You feel its cousin in Milan's hushed studios and even, improbably, eighty floors above the desert in Dubai's quiet hours.
